In the heart of Buckinghamshire, two historic establishments stand as testaments to the enduring charm and legacy of British pubs have not only weathered the passage of time but have also undergone a transformation in response to contemporary challenges. Old Spot Pub Company has taken a pioneering approach to overcome parking challenges and enhance the guest experience at these iconic venues.
Nestled on Oxford Road in Uxbridge, the Crown & Treaty is a pub that carries the weight of centuries on its timeworn beams and aged walls. Dating back to 1576, this Grade II* listed building has a historical significance that resonates far beyond its charming facade. In 1645, it played a pivotal role in the English Civil War when it became the venue for negotiations between Charles I and his Parliamentary opponents, known as the Treaty of Uxbridge.
Fast forward to the present day, and the Crown & Treaty still stands as a living relic of bygone eras. Its architectural evolution over the centuries is a testament to the ever-changing landscape of Uxbridge. Once known as Place House, this establishment was initially two-thirds larger than its current footprint. However, the widening of Oxford Road in the 18th century led to a reduction in size and its transformation into a coaching inn, overseen by the renowned architect Sir John Soane.
While the Crown & Treaty boasts a rich history, it faced a modern challenge shared by many pubs—the need for efficient parking. Leigh shared insights into this challenge, stating, "We had two unique challenges at our pubs: with The Crown & Treaty sharing its car park with another business, often leaving our guests without parking for events."
For an establishment with historical significance and a thriving events calendar, a shortage of parking spaces could mar the guest experience. It became evident that a tailored solution was required to maintain the charm of the Crown & Treaty while addressing these contemporary concerns.
A short drive away, in the idyllic village of Chalfont St. Peter, The Greyhound Inn, a riverside retreat with centuries of stories, stands as a haven of tranquillity beside the River Misbourne. With a history dating back to the 14th century, this coaching inn has witnessed the passage of time and the comings and goings of notable figures. Among its distinguished guests were Sir Winston Churchill, Oliver Cromwell, and even the notorious Judge Jeffreys, who held his assizes here and dispatched his unfortunate victims on the gallows by the river.
Today, The Greyhound Inn offers guests a blend of modern comfort and historical charm, boasting free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and luxurious private bathrooms. However, the exposed beams and old fireplaces serve as a constant reminder of the inn's enduring history.
Despite its picturesque riverside location, The Greyhound Inn faced a parking conundrum. While a paid car park was available nearby, guests often opted to use the inn's parking spaces, leaving paying customers with limited options.
Old Spot Pub Company recognised the need for a comprehensive parking management solution that could preserve the historical integrity of these establishments while efficiently addressing parking challenges. Leigh explained their decision, stating, "We needed a solution that could address these challenges effectively. Park & Control stood out as a partner who could provide the flexibility and support we needed."
Park & Control offers comprehensive parking solutions that cater to various industries, including busy business parks, bustling retail centres, and essential medical surgeries. Our goal is clear: to provide a hassle-free parking experience that allows employees and guests to focus on their activities without the stress of finding parking.
These solutions incorporate advanced ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras, utilising APCOA Parkway, along with innovative permit systems and, where necessary, physical barriers and dedicated enforcement officers. This combination ensures not just easy parking but a complete transformation of the parking experience on the premises of the Crown & Treaty and The Greyhound Inn.
Leigh emphasised the impact of this partnership, stating, "Our partnership with Park & Control has made a significant difference. Both pubs can now offer ample parking for events and paying guests, enhancing the overall customer experience."
What sets Park & Control apart from other providers, according to Leigh, is their unique approach. He noted, "We had several providers vying for our business, but Park & Control's approach was different. They were approachable, not pushy, and demonstrated an exceptional level of helpfulness throughout the process."
The willingness of Park & Control to collaborate with Old Spot Pub Company and remove fines for genuine cases showcased their commitment to ensuring a positive guest experience. This approach resonated with the values and principles held dear by the pubs, emphasizing the importance of customer satisfaction.
Leigh offered valuable advice to fellow pub owners and managers considering parking management solutions, saying, "I highly recommend considering Park & Control's services. The setup process is swift, and Park & Control takes care of the heavy lifting. Their outstanding service, particularly their flexibility in removing fines if a guest forgets to check in, ensures a positive experience and encourages repeat visits."
Leigh Phillips' experience with Park & Control's digital car park management system at the Crown & Treaty and The Greyhound Inn serves as a testament to the positive impact of effective car park management in the hospitality industry. As these pubs continue to balance their rich histories with the demands of the modern world, Park & Control's customer-focused approach and proven results make them an outstanding choice in the field.
The Crown & Treaty and The Greyhound Inn, with their centuries-old stories and timeless charm, remain beacons of hospitality, thanks to innovative solutions that preserve their legacy while enhancing the guest experience.
